The Besnus transition in 4C pyrrhotite revisited

چکیده

SUMMARY Ferrimagnetic, monoclinic 4C pyrrhotite (Fe7S8) is the only iron sulphide with high relevance for palaeomagnetism and rock magnetism that can be identified in materials by its characteristic low-temperature anomaly. Despite natural many magnetic studies over last decades, physics crystallography behind this anomaly, also denoted Besnus transition, a matter of debate. In study, we analyse static dynamic magnetization associated transition conjunction structural data reported literature. The correlation between Fe–Fe bonds causing spin-orbit coupling properties show characteristics stem from interaction two magnetocrystalline anisotropy systems triggered thermally induced changes on an atomic level pyrrhotite. This refutes widespread view caused crystallographic change to triclinic.

The Crumpling Transition Revisited

The “crumpling” transition, between rigid and crumpled surfaces, has been object of much discussion over the past years. The common lore is that such transition should be of second order. However, some lattice versions of the rigidity term on fixed connectivity surfaces seem to suggest that the transition is of higher order instead. While some models exhibit what appear to be lattice artifacts,...

Transition Logic Revisited

A new version of transition logic is presented. It integrates (dynamic) transitions, which change world states, and classical (static) reasoning, restricted in the paper to Horn logic with negation and constraints. This is achieved by de ning a deductive relationship `(T; ) among formulas for a partially order set (T; ) of transitions. This novel integration provides a uni ed framework for prac...

State-transition machines, revisited

In the autumn of 1978, Neil Jones and Steve Muchnick, working at the University of Kansas, were studying compiler synthesis from Scott-Strachey denotational-semantics definitions; I was Neil’s student. Neil read intently John Reynolds’s 1972 paper, Definitional Interpreters for Higher-Order Programming Languages [14], and applied Reynolds’s continuation-passing and defunctionalization transform...

Mixed Transition Systems Revisited

A variety of partial modeling formalisms, aimed to capture and reason about abstractions, have been proposed. Some, e.g., Kripke Modal Transition Systems (KMTSs) put strong restrictions on necessary and possible behaviours. Some, e.g., Mixed Transition Systems (MixTSs), relax these restrictions. Yet others, e.g., Generalized Kripke MTSs (GKMTSs), allow hypertransitions. In this paper, we aim to...

Development: The Maternal–Zygotic Transition Revisited

The handover from maternal to zygotic control has to be carefully orchestrated. In most animal embryos, maternal products drive early embryogenesis, and the genome of the zygote is only switched on later. However, in the nematode Ascaris the zygotic genome is never silent, and the maternal products are rapidly eliminated.
